{"id":604,"date":"2016-05-23T16:47:39","date_gmt":"2016-05-23T20:47:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ctorchids.org\/?p=604"},"modified":"2016-05-23T16:47:39","modified_gmt":"2016-05-23T20:47:39","slug":"june-18th-saturday-hike-into-black-creek-bog-to-see-native-orchids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ctorchids.org\/?p=604","title":{"rendered":"June 18th Saturday \u2013 Hike into Black Creek Bog to see Native Orchids."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>June 18<sup>th<\/sup> Saturday \u2013 Hike into Black Creek Bog to see Native Orchids.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will primarily be looking for Cypripedium reginae plus other orchids.\u00a0 The bog is an alkaline, sphagnum peat bog, dominated by black fir in a late successional stage of development.<\/p>\n<p>The cattails are now invading and will smother the cypripediums.\u00a0 There are also many ferns and mosses, sundews, (bear and deer droppings), pink pyrolas, and twinflowers.<\/p>\n<p>This will be a long day starting in Sprakers, NY.\u00a0 We will gather at 9:30 a.m. and proceed on our adventure.\u00a0 There are several motels and B&amp;B\u2019s in the area, or camping in the field of Thyme.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure to bring wet-able shoes, sandals or boots, Insect repellant, hat, long sleeves, and a high collar shirt and long pants.\u00a0 Plus of course your camera.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a stop in the afternoon at Paul Serano\u2019s, a former orchid enthusiast who now runs the family African violet business, Lyndon Lynon Greenhouses.<\/p>\n<p>Please contact Cheryl Mizak ASAP if you are interested or need more information.\u00a0 CMizak@alcher.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 18th Saturday \u2013 Hike into Black Creek Bog to see Native Orchids.
