COS will be at Hollandia Nursery, Bethel, Ct April 9 and 10, 2016 for their Spring Garden Expo!
The Connecticut Orchid Society will be participating in the Sprint Garden Expo happening at Hollandia Nursery in Bethel, Connecticut. Members of the society will be on hand all day on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10 to answers questions, offer advice, and share their experience growing and caring for orchids. The Society will have a variety of orchids for sale that are something different than those typically available in the big box and grocery stores. All sale plants are blooming or in-bud to bloom soon and are appropriate for all growing conditions and beginner growers. Society members will also be conducting two classes during the event: an Orchid Care and Potting Demonstration on Saturday from noon – 1:30 PM, and Basics of Orchid Growing on Sunday, April 10 from 10 – 11 AM. Classes are geared towards beginner and hobby orchid growers with audience participation and questions encouraged. Wondering how to get that orchid you received as a gift to bloom again? Curious about orchids and how to grow them well? Looking for an interesting orchid to add to your collection? Come visit Hollandia Nursery and The Connecticut Orchid Society on April 9 or 10.

The members of the CT Orchid Society will host a repotting clinic in the parking lot of Alcher Interiors. Is your plant not growing as well as it could be, not bloomed again since you bought it, or looking too big for its pot? Repotting can alleviate all these problems. Bring your plant and a CLEAN pot of your choice (orchid roots like small, shallow pots) and let the members do all the hard work! All types of orchids welcome. Learn tips and tricks about growing methods and media from the members while they pot up your plant to help it grow its best.
Cost: $ 5.00 per plant 4 inch pots or smaller. POTTING MEDIA IS INCLUDED, BUT PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CLEAN POT.

The plant, Paph. St. Swithin has 10 flowers on 3 inflorescences. I purchased the plant as a seedling in 1996. The plant has been divided but the other one has only 6 growths. The judges awarded an HCC 79 points. There were 204 previous awards since 1965, so I was even more surprised that I received an award! This is my first AOS award.
