Curious about Orchids?

Whether you grow plants on a windowsill, under lights, or in a greenhouse; whether you’re a beginner, or an experienced gardener looking for new horizons; if you grow orchids or would like to try, you should know about the Connecticut Orchid Society! We arc a 501 C(3) non-profit corporation, chartered under the laws of the State of Connecticut for “the preservation and extension of knowledge concerning the ecology, cultivation, hybridization, appreciation and uses” of orchids. Some of our members are beginners, some are advanced amateurs, and some are professional growers. We all enjoy learning about the fascinating world of orchids and sharing our experiences in growing them.

We meet on the second Wednesday of each month from September through June except for July and August when we hold a summer picnic usually on a Sunday in mid-August. Meetings start at 6:30p.m. and are generally over by 9:30 p.m. But plan on arriving at 6:00 p.m. to socialize and enjoy the show and sales tables. The meeting location alternates between the Cheshire and Farmington.

Regular features of each meeting are:
A plant show table, set up by 6:30 p.m., orchids grown by our members are displayed
for other members and visitors. You’ II be amazed at the beauty and variety of the flowers
on display.
Plant Raffle featuring plants donated by members or provided by the society.
A short business meeting where we go over upcoming events and programs that we are involved in, signup sheets for volunteer activities and events are passed around
A program, which may feature a speaker live or virtual, PowerPoint presentation, webinar viewing, a demonstration workshop, panel discussion or other topic of interest to hobbyists.
Refreshments as permitted.
• A plant sales/supplies table, where members can buy plants at reasonable prices may be included if the speaker brings plants or a special event is planned.
