2019 Connecticut Orchid Society Orchid Show on Sat, March 30, & Sun, March 31, in Bristol, CT

COS 2019 Orchid Show – American Orchid Society Awarded Show Trophy to the Connecticut Orchid Society for Display

The Connecticut Orchid Society will hold its own American Orchid Society sanctioned orchid show on Saturday, March 30 (10am-5pm) and Sunday, March 31 (10am-4pm).  The location is the Bristol Senior Center at 240 Stafford Avenue, in Bristol, Connecticut.  Early admission/entry is available for photographers on Sunday, March 31 (9-10am).  Plants for your shopping pleasure are available from the following vendors: Andy’s Orchids, Carmela Orchids, Ecuagenera, Main Street Orchids, Daffodils and More.  Educational and potting materials will also be available.

The show theme is ‘Spring into Orchids’ and attendees will have the opportunity to purchase plants from orchid vendors, attend informative lectures on orchid growing, and enjoy the beautiful bounty of orchid displays on hand.

COS Annual Picnic is Saturday, Aug 25, from 12-5pm, Rain or Shine!

COS Annual Picnic held rain or shine on Saturday, August 25th, from Noon – 5:00

Please join us at COS member, Sue Kennedy’s, residence in the lovely hills of Litchfield, to share a picnic meal and visit Sue’s Lord and Burnham Green House (full of orchids), and the shade house!

The COS will provide hamburgers and chicken based on the number of guests who have RSVPd.  Attendees are asked to bring a starter, side dish, salad, or dessert to share and a beverage of their choice.

Take Route 63 North toward Goshen. Just under 1 mile after turning onto Route 63 (North Street) the road forks. Take right fork past Forman School.  Driveway is about 2 miles north.  A lady bug flag will be hung at the driveway on the right.  Drive past the brick house straight back to the residence, which is located in a wooded area.

 

UConn Greenhouse Tour is June 23rd at 11am

On June 23rd at 11am The Connecticut Orchid Society is Touring the UConn Greenhouses

The University of Connecticut will be

hosting members of the COS for a private

tour of the University greenhouses. The

tour will start at 11 AM at the Torrey Life

Sciences Building on the UConn campus in

Storrs. The Society has developed a close

relationship with the University of

Connecticut over the years and is

privileged to be offered this private tour.

The UConn greenhouses contain a diverse

and well regarded orchid collection

focused on species as well as a diverse

collection of non-orchids.

We will be met at the North Parking Garage and

walk from there. Parking in the ground lot just

beyond the garage is also acceptable, because

they don’t enforce parking on weekends.

Coming in from Rt 44, take the Discovery Drive

entrance to campus, which is just west of the

intersection of 195. Follow Discovery Drive to

the light. Proceed straight across: visitors center

is to the right, parking garage is to the left. The

ground lot is on right just past visitor’s center.
